Just in Time for the Last Round of Stimulus Checks: iPhone 3G

9 06 2008

Today at Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC), the second generation of the all mighty phone was unveiled, the second generation iPhone, due July 11th. What’s different from the original you ask? Well I;m glad you asked, here’s a brief roundup:
Two Step to the Break

3G radio: for high speed downloads, up to 3.6x as fast as the original iPhone’s EDGE radio.

Exchange support:for push email, Blackberry style.

A-GPS:Assisted GPS, uses satellite, cell towers and wi-fi)

App Store:wireless purchase and download of iPhone applications and subsequent updates)

…and to ensure everybody and their momma gets one…a starting price of $199: for an 8GB model with a 2-year Death Star AT&T contract…$299 for a white 16GB version).

I must admit, it sounds pretty hot, however, it’s missing several crucial items.

NO bluetooth stereo (A2DP) profile. What good is a portable media player without the ability to use wireless headphones?

NO expandable memory. Some of us have tons of music and movies we’d like to take with us. Not being able to add on is WACK.

NO ability to swap out the battery. Some of us would like to invest in a higher capacity battery, or perhaps just change it when the time comes. Not happenin’ here! Well, for fee, nearly anything is possible….
